Sounds difficult to prepare right? Nonsense.

So without further ado here is a simplified method for cooking a Beef Bone Broth from Oxtail that can be put in a slow cooker before work in the morning and be prepared upon arrival home and be consumed warm with the beef melting off the bone!

What You Will Need:

Utensils:

  • Slow Cooker, Crockpot or Large Saucepan
  • Vegetable Knife
  • Frying Pan
  • Scissors
  • 2 Chopping Boards: (One for Meat, One for Vegetables)
  • Storage – Tupperware, Mason Jar or Flask

Ingredients:

  • 250g Beef Oxtail
  • 100 grams of Mushrooms (White Cup/ Button/ Chestnut/ Portobellini/ Shiitake or Oyster)
  • 2 Parsnips
  • 2 Carrots
  • 125g Kale
  • Mixed Herbs
  • 1 Onion

Optional:

  • Any Vegetables of choice (Root, Cruciferous) etc
  • Herbs and spices of choice
  • The Cooking

  • Take Oxtail out of packaging and use scissors to remove any excess fat from the Oxtail
  • Add Oxtail to frying pan and fry on a low heat to brown off
  • Whilst the Oxtail is frying, prepare the vegetables:  slice the Mushrooms, Parsnips, Carrots etc.
  • Add around 1 litre of water to the Slow Cooker or Crockpot and place on low heat
  • Once browned off add the Oxtail to the Slow Cooker or Crockpot and add the sliced vegetables.
  • Place the lid on the Slow Cooker or Crockpot
  • Let the Oxtail cook slowly, and leave for 6-9 hours on low heat (the longer the better, the lower the heat the better
  • Without removing the lid too frequently throughtout the cooking time, ensure that the oxtail is cooked (should be wiltering off the bone). Dish up; place the meat and bones in bowl for consumption (can also eat the bone marrow) and place all the liquid in a mug for immediate consumption (this is the broth!) or in storage Mason Jar/Flask.

    Note: If added to storage, immediately place in a fridge. Once you would like to drink the broth at a later time, simply heat up and serve warm

    How Long Will It Take To Cook

    Low Heat: 6-9 hours (ideal to put on before work, will be ready upon arrival)
    Medium Heat: 4-7 Hours
    High Heat – 3-4 hours

    When You Will Cook It:

    It is best to cook the broth when you have more time, or as said previously, during working hours on a low heat
